For this part of our study, we focused on living conditions and public health. Many of the indicators in this category were analysed for the first time, allowing us to explore entirely new areas of city activity and navigate the challenge of limited data availability.
We also took on the complex task of evaluating mental health support – both for adults and school students. We examined the availability of organised psychological assistance in schools and compared suicide attempt rates with access to medical professionals and other support systems.
Another crucial factor was the percentage of residents with access to healthcare and medical professionals, as well as the existence of free vaccination programmes for children. In our analysis, we chose not to assess mandatory vaccination policies, as in some socially aware countries where such a requirement does not exist, vaccination rates were still significantly above average. However, we deemed free vaccination access essential, ensuring that no parent delays their child's immunisation due to financial concerns.
We also evaluated the overall well-being of residents. This included the number of vacation days provided by national policies, the average working hours per week, and how urban policies impact obesity rates and type 2 diabetes prevalence.
One of the most critical indicators, which we recognised as a key measure of urban living conditions, was life expectancy at birth.
